Stephen E. Berry brings vast experience as a studio musician and a distinguished performance resume to his role as trombonist in the Chicago music scene. Born and raised in Chicago, Stephen received a bachelor’s degree in music from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. He has performed and recorded with some of the most well-known names in the music industry, including Tony Bennett, Lou Rawls, Frank Sinatra, The Temptations, The O’Jays, Diana Ross, and Lena Horne. Stephen can be heard on recordings with Chicago Sinfonietta, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, Malachi Thompson, Ernest Dawkins, and Edward Wilkerson and many popular R & B groups. In addition to performing, Stephen is a highly regarded music educator, having taught trombone and theory classes at the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) School of Music, and he coordinated the Jazz Express and Classical Express music education programs in Chicago Public Schools for WBEZ-FM and Musical Arts Institute - a Southside music school providing quality instruction to young musicians. He serves within Chicago’s Englewood community as a board member and performer/educator with the Live The Spirit Residency, an jazz organization best known for its highly acclaimed Englewood Jazz Festival. He currently serves on the jazz faculty at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts
