Edward House

Saxophone, Composer

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Ed grew up on the South Side, immersed in the sounds of Motown. As a child, he listened to legends like The Temptations, The Supremes, The Miracles, and The Four Tops. Though he once dreamed of playing the piano, he was discouraged, told that musical talent was a gift rather than a skill that could be developed. At twenty-two, Ed's perspective on music changed when his friend Robert Beck introduced him to John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme. The album’s profound impact inspired him to take up the saxophone. He began lessons at Lyon & Healy and later studied with John Houser. Ed's passion deepened when he met renowned saxophonist Ari Brown, who encouraged him to pursue music more seriously. Taking that advice to heart, Ed earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Roosevelt University’s College of Music and later studied under esteemed classical saxophonist Robert Black. Over the course of his career, Ed has toured the world, performing alongside some of the most respected names in music, including Charles Earland, Ari Brown, Chris Foreman, Bobby Broom, Mwata Bowden, Della Reese, Arthur Prysock, and the Great Black Music Ensemble of the AACM.
